- Hankook Tire's UHP flagship tire Ventus S1 evo2 fitted as Original Equipment on the new BMW 4-Series Coupe
- The high-end wide base tire comes equipped with sophisticated DTM technology, standing out for its successful combination of performance, durability and energy efficiency
- Developed and produced at Hankook Tire's European facilities for European automakers
April 1st, 2014 (Seoul, Korea) - Hankook Tire, the leading and one of the fastest tire companies in the world, has been selected as Original Equipment supplier for the new BMW 4-Series. The new, stylish and sporty Coupe by the Munich-based premium car manufacturer will be factory equipped with Hankook Tire’s high-end Ventus S1 evo2 flagship tires in size 225/50 R 17 W.
The recently launched 4-Series Coupe is the sixth model by the BMW Group to be fitted with Hankook tires, following on from the MINI, the BMW 1-, 3-, and 5-Series as well as the X5. This marks another important milestone in Hankook Tire’s global expansion in the premium segment. “We are pleased to continuously intensify our cooperation with the BMW Group,” said Mr. Seung Hwa Suh, Vice Chairman and CEO of Hankook Tire. He also added, “Supplying tires to the new 4-Series Coupe marks yet another, important milestone for us as it is the first time we are supplying tires to the BMW Group that not only have been developed in Europe but also are supplied directly from our European plant.”
Hankook Tire’s high-end flagship Ventus S1 evo2 was no stranger to the car manufacturer. It has already convinced the critical BMW engineers as original equipment tire for the recent BMW 3- and 5-Series. Even under demanding conditions, the tire stands out for its successful combination of driving dynamics and comfort features as well as wet grip and rolling resistance performance. “During the intensive trial phase, our Ventus S1 evo2 has once more given impressive proof of its high level of driving comfort and distinctively dynamic driving characteristics,” said Mr. Klaus Krause, Head of the European Technology Center (ETC) at Hankook Tire, where the tire development of the BMW Group in Europe takes place. “With the new Ventus S1 evo2, we have consistently applied our development philosophy Kontrol Technology* and developed a modern high-performance tire that optimally meets our customers’ requirements in terms of driving dynamics, safety and environmental friendliness.”
At present, about 50 engineers and technicians are developing bespoke tire solutions for European car manufacturers at Hankook Tire’s ETC in Hanover, Germany. Also, tires supplied to the BMW Group are developed and tested there. Production takes place at Hankook Tire’s European plant in Racalmas, Hungary. The company’s state-of-the-art plant specializes in the production of passenger car tires for the European market and ranks among the most modern production facilities in the world.
Technical Characteristics of the Hankook Tire's Ventus S1 evo2
- DTM-derived tire contour with Multi Tread Radius for equal ground contact pressure achieved through ideal tire footprint. Significant weight reduction through application of ultra-light yet highly durable steel cord material for steel belt package:
-Distinctive dynamic driving characteristics even under demanding conditions.
-Outstanding straight stability also at highest speeds
-High level of driving comfort and low rolling noise
-Increased performance especially in lateral hydroplaning
- DTM-inspired triple layer block design for superior traction:
-The staircase arrangement of the outer rib blocks is designed to increase the tire contact patch with the surface as the tire wear progresses, ensuring a consistently high traction performance throughout the tire-lifecycle.
- Latest generation Mixing Technologies and all new Tread Compound for reduced Rolling Resistance, dynamic handling characteristics and improved wet braking performance:
-The extension of mixing times at reduced temperatures significantly increases the bonding rate and more targeted cross linking between carbon and rubber molecules for reduced heat generation during driving thus improving handling characteristics while at the same time reducing rolling resistance, tread wear and thermal caused aging.
-A new High Styrene Polymer enhances the tire's wet braking performance as well.
- Advanced Cooling System with Intercoolers for improved heat regulation:
-Surface-enlarging cooling fins applied to the tire's main grooves allow for continuous heat reduction, resulting in a more stable handling performance.
-Double step dimples applied to outer block edges generate cooling micro turbulences thus reducing heat in the tire's shoulder part.
-Aerodynamically designed side wall helps to reduce noise and vibration level for increased driving comfort.
- VAI Siping System (Vehicle Alignment Indicator)
-Provides drivers an easy and convenient way to check the vehicles alignment themselves by comparing wear on the sipes of both of the tire's shoulders and realign as necessary.
-The current line-up comprises 55 dimensions from 16 to 19 inch with aspect ratios 60 to 30, covering tread widths from 205 to 305mm. The Ventus S1 evo2 is available for high powered compact cars, luxury limousines, sportive coupes /convertibles and GTs as well as high end sports cars.
Derived from the English terms Kinetic (for movement) and Control (for control), Hankook Tire Kontrol Technology reflects the best possible controllability of the interaction between the driver, the vehicle and the road by the tires during the journey. Kontrol Technology has been developed in order to provide the vehicle driver with all currently available benefits of the latest Hankook Tire technology in terms of safety, driving characteristics, comfort and environmental compatibility.
