Largest Automotive Magazine in the World Awards Hankook with Top Marks for Braking and Performance

WAYNE, N.J. July 7, 2009 - Hankook Tire finished 2nd in a recent tire test performed by Car and Driver magazine, falling only three points shy of the top spot.

Car and Driver tested nine of the most popular summer tire brands, each with a price limit of $140. Hankook’s Ventus V12 Evo was noted as "deceptively quick" and performed exceptionally well in wet conditions, taking home top marks in braking and placing second in the skidpad run, missing the top spot by only one point.

"The Ventus V12 Evo has surpassed competitors in almost all test criteria - braking, safety, road noise (quiet), and cost/value which is becoming increasingly more important with consumers," said Bill Bainbridge, director of brand communication, Hankook Tire America Corp. "The results achieved by the Ventus V12 Evo further support Hankook’s technology focused, market driven strategy to be one of the most innovative performance tire suppliers in the market today."

Car and Driver’s Dave Vanderwerp went on to call the Ventus V12 Evo "extremely consistent" and "an impressive and well rounded summer tire," along with "best around the track."

Hankook also walked off with the best rating for sound level, after each set of tires had endured a four mile street loop to measure interior noise and subjective behaviors such as sound quality, impact harshness and steering feel.

Highlights of Hankook’s test results include:

  • 1st place in wet performance braking
  • 1st place in wet performance skidpad run
  • 1st place in sound level subjective testing
  • 2nd place in pricing
  • 2nd place in wet performance autocross
  • 2nd place in dry performance skidpad run

Each set of tires was put through three different maneuvers in wet and dry conditions: braking from 50 mph to a standstill, laps around a 0.3 mile autocross course and runs around a 200 foot-diameter skidpad.

Through Kontrol Technology, Hankook’s research and development philosophy, the Ventus V12 Evo utilizes the latest technology to maximize steering response and improve high-speed stability while the tire’s water drainage system ensures safety on wet surfaces.

Ventus V12 Evo tires are widely available through Hankook’s network of over 400 independent dealers through more than 3500 point-of-sale locations across the country. Currently through the Tame the Road rebate program, customers can receive a $50 mail-in rebate with the retail purchase of four V12 Evo tires in any size between June 1, 2009 and August 31, 2009 from any authorized Hankook retailer.
