Hankook Teams Take Two Class Wins and Track Record at Redline Time Attack Event in Willow Springs
Four Hankook Drivers finish in the Top 6 out of 100 Competitors
WAYNE, N.J. June 2, 2009 - Round Two of the Redline Time Attack series did not fail to meet expectations, with records falling by the hour at the 2.5 mile Willow Springs Raceway in Rosamond, Calif., May 30 and 31.
In the end, all four of Hankook Tire team drivers placed in the Top 6 Overall, including two drivers in the Top 3, two class wins, one third in class, and one unbelievable track record that may indeed be the fastest lap time ever put down by a front wheel drive vehicle at Willow Springs Raceway.
Winning the Unlimited All-Wheel Drive class and talking second place overall was driver Jonathan Bomarito in the Sierra Sierra Enterprises Mitsubishi EVO 8, laying down a lap time of 1:20.454, which was almost two seconds better than the existing track record as the weekend started. Hankook driver Gary Sheehen in the GST Motorsports Hankook Subaru WRX also managed to grab the third place podium spot in the U-AWD class and sixth place overall.
In the Unlimited Rear-Wheel Drive class driver Tyler McQuarrie dropped down another stellar run of 1:20.838 in the CWest/BC/Hankook Honda S2000 to nab second in class and third place overall in the event. The CWest/BC/Hankook S2000 continues to improve each event, with the Redline Time Attack Grand Championship clearly within reach.
The story of the weekend though was Chris Rado in his World Racing Hankook Scion tC not only taking the Unlimited Front-Wheel Drive class win, but doing so in a fashion that nobody expected or even thought they would witness - a front wheel drive vehicle laying down an unprecedented 1:22.623, which according to Redline Time Attack officials may possibly be the fastest lap time ever put down at Willow Springs in FWD.
All four Hankook teams utilize the Hankook Ventus Z214, a DOT R-Compound tire with a reinforced sidewall construction and special Hankook Tire compound technology, which maximizes grip on both dry and damp conditions.
“Our teams worked hard at Willow Springs to achieve this amount of success,” said Jason Kim, Hankook Tire marketing manager ? Motorsports and Events. “When you have over 100 of the best competitors from the different classes and you can get all four of your drivers in the Top 6, clearly its a strong weekend. Once again the Ventus Z214 proved that it can be the dominant circuit DOT R-Compound tire in Time Attack and Autocross competition.”
Round Three of the Redline Time Attack and the Grand Championship point series will take place June 20-21 at the AutoBahn Country Club in Chicago. Complete details, photos and video can be found at: www.redlinetimeattack.com.
