  • Hankook Tire’s exceptional tire technology puts them in 3rd place podium finish in the first race of the Le Mans Series
  • Allan Simonsen and Christian Montanari partner throughout the six hour race with proven Hankook Tire excellence
  • The world’s seventh largest and fastest growing tire manufacturer again proves its great dedication to motorsports

Seoul, April 6, 2009 - Ranked seventh among all tire manufacturers in the world¹, Hankook Tire has partnered with Farnbacher Racing Team to take 3rd place amongst a field of 13 competitors in the Le Mans Series GT2 Class in Barcelona, Spain, on Sunday, April 5. With its name globally renowned for technology and excellence within motorsports, Hankook Tire has again proven itself to be a leading high performance tire company with a podium finish at the Catalunya Circuit.

With two laps remaining and fuel running low, the Hankook Farnbacher team drivers, Allan Simonsen and Christian Montanari, sped through to the finish line in 3rd place to complete the rigorous six hour, 215 lap race. Brand Director, SeHeon Kim stated after the race, “With the team and the drivers, this race was both a significant experience and a discovery. At the next race in Belgium, we will increase our application of Hankook’s superior technological excellence in order to advance tire grip and durability to achieve even better results.”

Hankook Tire has steadily increased its involvement in European racing over recent years. In past seasons, Hankook’s high-performance tires were on the starting line in motorsports competitions in Germany, UK, the Netherlands, France, Italy and Spain. Hankook has previously gained many years of experience in motorsports in Super GT races in Japan, Super races in Korea, championships in the China Circuit Championship (CCC), the China Rally Championship (CRC), and the American Le Mans Series. Over the past few years, the company has been able to prove its superior racing tire performance with the Hankook Alzen Team in the German endurance championships, achieving the fastest lap times ever on the famous Nuerburgring Nordschleife. “Hankook’s accomplishments this day serve as a stable footstep into the next level of motor-racing hierarchy,” added SeHeon Kim.

Hankook Tire will continue to integrate the Le Mans series races into various marketing activities in the near future, with the series ranking top among Hankook Tire’s motorsports activities because of its perfect alignment of Hankook’s motto, driving emotion, and support of talented teams such as Farnbacher throughout Europe. The tire manufacturer will also continue its committment to motorsports, because it is the perfect arena to demonstrate technical competence and the high performance characteristics of Hankook products, believing that racing can develop innovations that will find their way to mass production road cars.

With an intense tire testing schedule and highly experienced technical engineers working on-site at each and every race weekend and private testing days, Hankook is poised to further expand its presence in the series within the next 12 months. The next Le Mans series race at the Belgian town of SPA is scheduled in early May.
