WAYNE, NEW JERSEY, November 14, 2008 - Topping off what has been an unbelievable season in time attack racing, two Hankook-sponsored teams grabbed the top two spots of the Super Lap Battle Finals at Buttonwillow Raceway while a third Hankook team finished fourth giving Hankook Tire three of the top-four spots in the highly competitive finale.
It wasn’t just the usual California sun heating up the track, but also the 65 very serious Super Lap Battle competitors saddled up in full force for the final event of the season. Despite some late engine problems, the Cusco/Tomei Voltex Subaru WRX STi team rallied and had the vehicle prepared when the official call came. Tarzan Yamada then expertly piloted his Subaru to the overall victory, with a time of 1:44:372--just barely missing out on the track record of 1:43:52.
Right on his heels came the second Hankook Tire-sponsored vehicle, the CWest/BC/Hankook Honda S2000 driven by Tyler McQuarrie, who brought the S2000 home as the second place finisher overall, also setting a new track record in the Unlimited FR category with a time of 1:46:8.
Both of these vehicles, including the fourth place Hankook/JIC Magic Porsche, were outfitted with Hankook’s Ventus Z214 tire which has helped teams break track records and win events all season long.
“Needless to say, the C West/BC/Hankook Honda S2000 had a very successful season competing in both the Redline Time Attack series and Source Interlink Super Lap Battle,” said Design Craft Fabrications team owner Gary Castillo. “The team captured the 2008 Redline Time Attack points Championship in Overall as well as many other accolades this season.”
The win at the finale marks the end of an impressive season for the Hankook Tire Time Attack teams and the Ventus Z214 tire, which showcased a win in all six races entered and included four overall wins, seven class wins, three track records as well as two GT Live Super Session victories.
“With this Super Lap Battle win Hankook Tire helped prove that whether it be a Subaru or Honda, Hankook’s compound technology and the Ventus Z214 tire can help teams earn a great result”, said Bill Bainbridge, director, brand communications, Hankook Tire America Corp. “I congratulate our sponsored teams and partners on a stellar performance at Buttonwillow and a great time attack season.”
