Tyler McQuarrie Captures 2008 Redline Time Attack Title
WAYNE, NEW JERSEY, October 15, 2008 - Hankook Tire-sponsored Tyler McQuarrie finished the 2008 season with a bang, securing the 2008 Redline Time Attack Grand championship title with a win at the season finale at Virginia International Raceway on Oct. 5. This marks Hankook Tire’s first Redline Time Attack Grand championship in just its second year of competition with the series.
With the race on the line, McQuarrie was able to pull ahead of the competition on the last lap to come out on top with a time of 1:41:6.
“I knew it came down to the last corner on the last lap. I had to pass him (Luke Russell-Top Speed).” McQuarrie said. “He forced me to drop wheels on the exit, but he was done at that point. We crossed the finish line in first and came away with the overall championship for 2008.”
McQuarrie captured the championship title with 127 points in a CWest/BC Brian Crower/Hankook Honda S2000 fitted with Hankook Tire Z214 DOT R Compound.
“The Hankook Z214 tire is faster than anything else currently available, without question,” said Nikolas Malechikos, Redline Time Attack co-founder. “The winning performance of the Hankook Z214 has changed the fundamental way Redline Time Attack and fellow competitors compete in this series.”
The win marks the end of an impressive season for the CWest/BC Brian Crower/Hankook Time Attack team, which showcased a win in all five races entered and included four overall class wins, two track records and two GT Live Super Session wins.
“This was one of those times when all individuals were vital in developing and ultimately achieving our goal, which was to win the ’08 overall Redline points championship,” said Bill Bainbridge, director of brand communication, Hankook Tire America Corp. “It was a very successful year. The CWest/BC Brian Crower/Hankook s2000 won every event it entered, set track records and won two Super Session battles. Congratulations to the Time Attack team and Tyler.”
