Hankook Takes First Ever World Series of Off-Road Racing Win as Steve Federico Snags Victory at Bark River
WAYNE, NEW JERSEY, July 15, 2008 - The Hankook Tire sponsored Sticker Dude Motorsports team headed to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula looking to make up ground on the leaders of their respective race divisions. Steve Federico and Lee O’Donnell not only accomplished that feat, but also made off-road racing history for their tire partner.
World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) Round 5 at Bark River in the Pro-Light division saw several incredible firsts. Sticker Dude Motorsports for the first time ever had both Toyota Tacoma race trucks finish on the podium in the same race. The race was also the first time Hankook Tire had two podium finishers as well as Hankook’s first professional off-road race victory.
“What a great accomplishment for our off-road race team and our Dynapro MT tires,” remarked Bill Bainbridge, Hankook Tire Director of Brand Communications. “We’re thrilled to achieve our first victory and look forward to continued success as we see off-road racing as a great way to showcase the technology of our tires…the same tires that any light truck owner can have on their own vehicle.”
Steve Federico grabbed a short-lived lead at the start, only to be passed by fellow Toyota driver and points leader #4 Jeff Kincaid. However on lap five Kincaid suffered a flat tire, allowing Federico to recapture the lead for good. During the last half of the race the Federico’s #24 Invisible Glass PF Chang’s Hankook Tire Toyota Tacoma was pressured by a swarm of trucks. Regardless, he pushed the Tacoma to its limits and came home with his first victory of the season.
“Once again, the Hankook Tire shod Tacoma never missed a beat,” said an elated Federico. “These Hankook Tires start with awesome grip and finish with awesome grip. Thanks again to Invisible Glass, Toyota, PF Changs, Hankook Tires, RH2, Phil’s Inc., etc. Without everyone’s help, Lee and I couldn’t accomplish what we did today.”
Federico was referring to teammate Lee O’Donnell and his # 23 Hankook Tires Invisible Glass Toyota Tacoma who came through the first corner in sixth place, but on lap five O’Donnell had moved up to third place and held the position to the checkered flag despite the slew of competitors around him. “I’m really pleased with today’s result,” said O’Donnell. “Thanks to Race Fab for all their prep work between races, FAT Performance who gives me all the Toyota horsepower I need, Jake and Jon at the track, and of course, the incredible Hankook Tires. Today Steven was faster; maybe tomorrow we can switch positions on the podium!”
