Hankook-PMR Motorsports Leads PGT Class after Oregon Trail Rally

WAYNE, N.J., May 28, 2008 - At Rally America’s most recent event, Oregon Trail Rally, team Hankook-PMR Motorsports finished strong to leave with a healthy lead in the Production GT class. Driver Pat Moro and navigator Mike Rossey were able to overcome challenges on the road and mechanical issues with their vehicle to claim a top-five finish outside the city of Portland, Ore.

The race lasted three days and involved sixteen stages on both asphalt and dirt roads. Road conditions caused two of the stages to be cancelled on the final day due to excessive snow accumulations in the 90-degree weather!

On day two, Moro and Rossey faced overheating issues, forcing them to have their Subaru towed for repair. The problem was fixed by replacing a stuck thermostat, but the lost time on the course pushed them further towards the back of the pack. Excelling when they needed to most, Moro and Rossey maneuvered brilliantly around the challenging mountain roads, while many of their competitors were unable to complete the race.

“What Hankook-PMR Motorsports was able to accomplish at Oregon Trail shows why they are the best in their class,” said Bill Bainbridge, director of brand communication for Hankook Tire America Corp. “Despite the mechanical issues that they had to deal with, Moro and Rossey did an excellent job and we’re pleased with the performance that the Hankook tires were able to deliver.”

Hankook-supported Carolina RS Team suffered a disappointing crash on the second day, ending their hopes for a strong finish. Driver Matt Johnson and navigator Jeremy Wimpey both walked away uninjured and look to bounce back in their Hankook-Rallispec Subaru in the Open class of competition.

Moro is currently ranked seventh in the National Championship in Rally America, while Johnson is ranked fourth in the Open class and in the overall national chase. Both drivers look to continue building points to qualify for the X Games as their next stop takes them to the Susquehannock Trail Rally in Wellsboro, Pa., starting June 6.
