The Utah Grand Prix Marks Hankook’s Entry into ALMS
WAYNE, N.J., May 21, 2008 - Hankook Tire took its first lap of green flag racing in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) at this past weekend’s Larry H. Miller Dealerships Utah Grand Prix.
As the official tire supplier for Primetime Race Group, Hankook Tire engineers worked directly with the team in preparation for Sunday’s event. The team was forced to make an engine change and missed qualifying, resulting in a last-place start for the Viper. “We had a lot of issues to work through to get this car ready for competition,” said team owner/driver Joel Feinberg. “The team came together and produced a car that ran really strong at the beginning of the race.”
With only 24 minutes of practice time before the race, the Primetime Viper would be forced to start at the back of a 30-car field (16th in GT2 Class), since they were unable to qualify the car. Once the race began, Feinberg took a few laps to settle into the car and, with no pressure from behind, he soon began reeling in the back of the GT2 pack. Within one hour of the race, Feinberg had moved up the field from 16th in class up to ninth turning consistent laps, proving the new Hankook Ventus race tires to be a good choice for the Viper.
A short to the Viper’s electrical system surfaced a few laps before the first scheduled pit stop, and the team was forced to end their day early due to electrical failure. “Even though we were unable to finish the race, this weekend was extremely valuable for both Hankook Tire and Primetime Race Group,” said Bill Bainbridge, director of brand communication for Hankook Tire America Corp. “The Ventus F200 tires that we had on the Viper performed well and we’ll continue to tweak the characteristics to better suit the vehicle for the next race in mid-July.”
Look for Hankook Tire and Primetime Race Group to be competing in the next race at the American Le Mans Series Northeast Grand Prix in Lakeville, Conn., on July 12.
