Hankook Tire Prepares for Round 2 of Formula Drift
WAYNE, NEW JERSEY, May 8, 2008 - As the Formula Drift series heads south this weekend for the Feel the Heat event at Road Atlanta, Hankook Tire teams look for success at the storied racing venue. The 2.54-mile, 12-turn track, site of the first North American Drifting race in 2004, is sure to provide exciting competition for fans and teams alike.
Hankook Tire/JIC Magic and Peak Performance Racing experienced mechanical difficulties at the season-opener in Long Beach, but look to turn their luck around in Georgia. Tyler McQuarrie’s Hankook Tire/JIC Magic USA Porsche 993 makes its Road Atlanta debut this weekend. McQuarrie looks to build on last year’s success, which saw him capture a top qualifying spot in the Porsche’s second outing in Wall, NJ.
Peak Performance Racing drivers Robbie Nishida and Joon Maeng join Hankook Tire’s roster this season. Veteran driver Nishida is a crowd favorite in his Nissan 350Z and up-and-comer Maeng, the 2007 Spirit of Drifting Award winner, looks to build his young career.
“We’re very hopeful about both of our Formula Drift teams this season,” said Bill Bainbridge, director of brand communication, Hankook Tire America Corp. “The Hankook Tire/JCI Magic USA Porsche 993 will complete its first full season of competition in 2008, and we’re eager to show the winning capabilities of Tyler and the Porsche. We’re also thrilled to have Robbie and Joon competing on Hankook tires. These are all very accomplished drivers and it should be an exciting weekend as they fight to make the Great 8.”
In addition to serving as the official tire supplier for two teams, Hankook Tire is proud to be an associate sponsor of Formula Drift racing. In its fifth season, the series boasts 10 tire sponsors creating fierce competition among teams and suppliers, and drawing enthusiastic crowds.
