Hankook-Sponsored Driver Wins Two In A Row

James Wilson makes clean sweep SCCA National Solo Event in San Diego in his ChaseCam.com Subaru Impreza fitted with Ventus Z214’s

SAN DIEGO, CA (March 28, 2007) - This week, Hankook Tires made a clean sweep of Southern California SCCA National Solo events, with driver James Wilson, in his ChaseCam.com Subaru Impreza, winning the H-Stock class in both San Diego and El Toro.

The Solo National Tour made its second stop for 2007 at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. Taking full advantage of the Ventus Z214’s advanced construction and grip, Wilson quickly became the car to beat, starting the morning with early lap times despite the typical fresh course hurdles that often plague the “sweep cars”.

“As soon as I hit the first corner, I knew we were onto something good,” said Wilson of the San Diego event. “The C70-compound Z214 had a distinct advantage over the other competitor’s tires by requiring very little heat buildup to work effectively. The rest of the class struggled to get near our lap times even as the course was swept clean and tires warmed up. We could focus on being consistent and fast.”

History would repeat itself the following weekend as the SCCA ProSolo National Series began its first round of dragstrip-start autocross at the AMCI facility in El Toro, California.

“We had a bit of a disadvantage going into the ProSolo, with the courses favoring the sprightly BMW MINIs that would potentially be faster through the higher-speed sections of both courses,” noted Wilson. “We relied heavily on the much lower 60’ times that Subaru’s AWD and tenacious launching grip of the Ventus Z214, as well as the ability of the C70-compound to outperform in cooler and dirtier conditions, to make up for the Subaru’s weight penalty.”

Wilson once again took home the win in H-Stock, setting the bar for the rest of the ’07 ProSolo Series.

Despite being knocked out later in the first round of Super Challenge competition due to a technicality, Wilson remains positive. “We have surprised a lot of people very early on this year, no doubt thanks to the tremendous grip and consistency of the Z214 tire. I hope that we continue to show that Hankook is committed to providing excellent products and support for the Motorsports market that are not only affordable, but are proven to WIN as well.”

James Wilson and the ChaseCam.com Subaru Impreza will be at the next stop of the SCCA Solo National Tour at Castle Airport in Atwater, California April 14th and 15th. The series’ National Championships will take place at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas in September.
