Harry Kintzi Wins Porsche Clash On Hankook Tires At Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen, NY (June 10, 2006) - Hankook Tire continues to prove its reputation for high quality and performance by bringing home a first time class win in the very competitive Porsche Club Race Series. Hankook Tires USA and Harry Kintzi of Club Sport Racing partnered to win the highly competitive E Class at the 2006 Porsche Clash at Watkins Glen on June 10.

Porsche Club Racing (PCR) is a highly competitive series featuring all Porsches. Tire choices are at the discretion of the competitors. The race groups are organized by similarly performing cars and usually have up to 40 plus cars per group. The PCR Group Two Race started with mostly dry track conditions after two days of rain. Kintzi’s 944 Turbo was gridded first of 17 cars in Class E and ninth overall. “I knew I would have to work hard to stay in front. My competitors were right behind me and would not let up. We had smooth sailing until the end when an incident forced us to all bunch up under yellow and the gap to second in class narrowed to one car behind. Looking at the clock I thought we probably would finish in the current order under yellow. However, the green flag waved and we were racing again. I had two laps until the checkered flag to maintain my lead and could not let up”, Kintzi stated.

Interviewed after his class win, Harry was extremely pleased with the Ventus Z214 DOT R compound and its performance in wet and dry conditions. “I didn’t know what to expect but I have heard good reports about its performance in other race series. All of my competitors use other race tires and are extremely quick. I always have to work hard to stay in the top five at any of the Porsche Club races. These tires made it easy!” Kintzi’s Porsche 944 turbo, held off numerous competitors running on Hoosiers to take the E Class win. Not only did Harry win his class but also qualified first in class and ninth overall in a race group of 37 cars dominated by GT4S and D Class 911’s. Kintzi, a long time Porsche Club racer and a veteran of numerous SCCA and Grand Am Cup endurance races, stated “I can’t believe the performance of these tires. The track was wet and cold. I didn’t think I could get these tires up to racing temperature during qualifying and the race, but the stick of the tire was incredible. Even in damp conditions, the tires were easy to modulate under braking and turning. I could put the car most anywhere on the track. The Ventus Z214’s are great”.
