Pecorari Wins in Inaugural IMSA Lites Event

WAYNE, NJ (May 15, 2006) - The highly anticipated IMSA Lites Series now has its first events in the books with a racing double at Road Atlanta Saturday May 13th. A series record that will never fall is that of its first ever race winner, that being Adam Pecorari, the 21-year old driver from Aston, Pennsylvania. Campaigning in the #2 Van Diemen Elan for Cape Motorsports/Hankook Tires, Pecorari made the paddock take notice as he was atop the time sheets for every session including qualifying and eventually winning the race with a commanding lead.

After many ups and downs in his first sportscar series season in ’05 coming over from open wheel, Adam explored all options going into the ‘06 racing season. “The IMSA Lites championship looks like a great series for up and coming drivers and teams to make that transition to the next level of racing, like the ALMS, which is a goal I’ve set for myself” Pecorari said.

Adam had little time to relish his first overall victory since 2004, as there was another race to prepare for. The second race began much the way the first, by starting from pole position and pulling away by lap 5, until a suspension problem became apparent. Running with an obviously crippled car, but maintaining the lead, Adam was able to keep the car running by slowing a bit. Finally a few laps later the wishbone bent and Adam had to retire while leading the race.

“It’s real unfortunate for the team,” said Pecorari. “The car was great all weekend and we were going for the sweep. It’s one of those crazy things when a suspension piece bends without contact, but it happened today. We will go to Mid-Ohio next weekend with the intent to build on what we learned here and see if we can’t finish atop the podium.”

Hankook Ventus F200 racing slicks are the official spec tire for the series. “What a great way to get started in this exciting new series” offers Bill Bainbridge, Hankook Tire America Corp. Marketing Director. “As the series progresses and car counts increase, road racing fans are going to have plenty to cheer about. We can’t help but be pleased that so many of the drivers in Atlanta went out of their way to tell us after the inaugural races how pleased they were with the performance of our tires.”

Dave Martin, Hankook Race Tire Engineer added “In this series, drivers must qualify and race on the same set of tires. Even though there were two races on Saturday, most of the teams actually ran both races on the same set of tires. That in and of itself is a testament to the tires performance and consistency.”

Mid-Ohio will be the first time IMSA Lites will be alongside the American Le Mans Series. Also, more factory pilots are expected to be competing, including a team from the Prototype 2 class in ALMS. The remaining 4 events will be as a support series for the ALMS. As for Pecorari and the Cape Motorsports team, things are looking very positive with their sights set firmly on a series championship.
